Wyland's Whaling WallPosted by Susan (Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States) on 6 June 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio. Went back to the wall last night, after a good pouring rain, and got the shot I was looking for, the night before.....It's a very, very long wall.....and the marine life abounds from one end to the other. On this section are the 13 dolphins....dedicated to ex Miami Dolphin Dan Marino, who's number was 13 (personal friend of Wyland's)..... I haven't figured out yet how to "flatten" the image when I stitch 2 together....therefore, wall looks curved here, but really, it's not.....anyone know the solution???? Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United StatesAwesome composition and the colors are lovely. 6 Jun 2009 5:19am @Suzanne: Thanks Suzanne!! Jen from St. George, United StatesCool shot! Don't know what software you're using for stitching, but some have various manual options that allow you to adjust. Other than that, I would try distorting the photos in PS before stitching them together. Don't know if any of that helps... just my two cents. Have a good weekend! :) 6 Jun 2009 5:40am @Jen: The more I thought about this, I think it's not really the software, but the way I'm taking the shots!!! To try to get as much wall in as possible, I'm not shooting "straight" at the wall....I'm shooting at an angle....and it's because of that the when I stitch the shots, it looks like this...there may be a way to straighten, but I think I'd end up losing the effect i was going for....so for now, I think I'm satisfied with this.....But thanks much for your suggestions...I may play with the shots a bit and see what I can get..... jamesy from christchurch, New Zealandnot a clue how to do that but I give this 5 stars anyway has its stunning the colours and the light are fabulous 6 Jun 2009 6:31am @jamesy: Thanks much Deb.....i think it's from the way I shot the pics that this happens.... dkc from Xanthi, GreeceSuch an amazing panorama Susan full of colours and beautiful dark sky...and despite that you think that the walls are curved the look its perfect! 6 Jun 2009 7:18am @dkc: thank you dimitris, glad you like it, as is... Leena from Joensuu, FinlandBut this is just fabulous with those dolphins and all those colours in it! 6 Jun 2009 11:43am @Leena: Thank you Leena.....we hope it's a sunny weekend here.....same to you!! Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, CanadaGreat shot Susan. This shot does it much more justice. I like your crop here. 6 Jun 2009 1:06pm @Lee: Thanks Lee....In my haste to post the shots the other day....the way I did those first two doesn't really give them the "space" they deserve.....I may just post some other individual shots that I like....Basically, no crop here at all.....It was 2 very wide angle shots...shot from the same position, first looking right, then from left....I was lucky that the whale tail in the foreground "made the cut".....I used "Pixtra Pano-Stitcher" to merge the photos....and the program basically did the work!! It's a pretty bizarre program....and other than that, no cropping on my part......got the same shot both ways, due to great camera, and great tripod...no human involved!! @Marc: Thanks much, Marc!! @Sarah: Thanks for all your kind words today!! Appreciate your visits!! @Dawn Bayer: Thanks much Dawn....it's a great piece of artwork....i just wish i could get the whole thing, in one shot, so everyone get see the whole thing!! peter from new york, United Stateswow susan! this is a stunning panorama! the lines are great, the lighting is right, and the artwork is awesome! nicely presented : ) 7 Jun 2009 12:13am @peter: Thanks so much Peter...I have a very similar shot, done in the daytime, from when the wall was first done.....but the grass was all dead, and the sidewalk was completely different, not what it is now...I've waited a long time to get the shot I initially saw in my head...and was quite lucky that it stopped raining last night, and the night sky still had enough storminess left in it to be dramatic!! And the bonus, that I didn't even notice when I was shooting, was I got the Whale Tail in, right in the foreground.... john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesLove the composition and the lighting. Outstanding sky. 7 Jun 2009 12:24am @john4jack: Thanks much Jack....that's a typical sky lately down here....with thunderstorms being frequent visitors lately...had another beaut tonite...I think I got some similar dramatic skies, from the catwalk of my building....I'll know for sure in the morning, when I download everything!! willow from Chelsea, United StatesI don't know how to straighten it out, but I really like the way it looks here. It's an awesome night shot and the colors are - AWESOME! It looks like the scene extends around a corner - really cool. 7 Jun 2009 2:50am @willow: It's really weird that it looks like a corner.....having seen it, (over & over again), and knowing it's a perfectly straight wall, I feel like the photo is not "true" to the wall....but I guess for those of you who haven't seen it, it looks perfectly normal. So glad you liked it!!! I just love sharing it with people...another shot, in a few days, of the "darker" end of the wall..... Magda from Vancouver, CanadaGorgeous! Love the composition and the lighting! Superb 7 Jun 2009 4:56am @Magda: Thanks very much Magda!! sawsengee from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysiasplendid view.....the wide angle lens, the lights & composition really make this photo a standout. 7 Jun 2009 9:10am @sawsengee: Thanks very much..... @Cricket-Tammy: Thanks much Tammy!! |
