And day fades away......

Posted by Susan (Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States) on 3 February 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Another shot from the fateful night where my camera took a tumble. I am so, so lucky that it still worked, after my inattention caused it to drop to the ground.

Beautiful light and scenery, and i like the composition with the sign and rail in the foregreound, makes it less of a "usual landscape shot". Great work :)

@zahai: Yes, usually I would have cropped out the fence, and made the sign disappear with photoshop, but I kind of liked it this way too!! Thanks for commenting...

Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United States

I agree on the sign and rail ... it's a REAL place alongside the road.
The way the colors move from dark blue to pale orange in such a gradual way always fascinates me.
A great afterglow shot, Susan!

@Judy: Thanks much!!! It was really pretty out that evening.....

EYES WIDE SHUT from United Kingdom

I think if we're honest, that many of us will admit to the odd bout of clumsiness with out photographic equipment, Susan. I bought some protective body armour for mine and dropped the darn thing as I was fitting the armour! Ha ha

This is a wonderful scene, stunning and so well captured. The perspective is spot on

3 Feb 2009 3:23pm

@EYES WIDE SHUT: I can't imagine anyone being as careless as I was, the night the camera fell right off the tripod, and crashed into the pavement below, and then took a bounce also!! I'm normally sooooo careful.... and I'm always concerned about the camera coming off the tripod (although i shouldn't be, since it's pretty darn stable when you attach it properly!!) Anyway, alls well that ends well (thank goodness), and as you can see..... the results after the "great fall" were quite satisfactory!!! Thanks for telling me about your little "episode"... makes me feel not quite so stupid!!!

willow from Chelsea, United States

The lighting is magical. I'm glad your camera survived. I once dropped my macro lens and thought I was going to cry, but it survived, too. Lucky.

3 Feb 2009 6:06pm

@willow: Now that you've reminded me.... many years ago, in NYC, to shoot a special concert, I dropped my 70-300 on the sidewalk, and it broke!!! That was toooooo sad......
Glad I didn't have a repeat of the same result this time!!

Ajinkya from Pune, India

splendid perspective !

@Ajinkya: Thank you!!! Glad you liked it!!

Tony Duque from Raleigh, United States

Ahhhh... yes.... another wonderful shot... from the rebel survivor and its operator! That's simply a terrific shot, all the way around! Thanks for sharing!!
I really hope everyone will share their klutz stories... misery loving company the way it does. I let the first digital camera I ever owned slip from my hands, and, in a desperate, knee-jerk attempt to catch it, ended up slamming it to the pavement, where it sort of exploded. Glad I hadn't spent much on it... and that no one was there to see/hear my reaction. We live and learn... hopefully.

3 Feb 2009 9:50pm

@Tony Duque: I definitely can feel your pain on that first camera of yours!! I actually watched mine fall to the ground, in what seemed to be slooooowwww motion...and I wasn't close enough to even attempt to grab it!!! and also, probably a good thing no one was around me, cause I'm sure I swore like a sailor!!!!
but bottom line is, it still works, so far, and i have learned a lesson!!

shroom from DFW, United States

For some reason I really like the lower left corner - the red pole and the green grass. Makes the shot for me.

3 Feb 2009 10:31pm

@shroom: I know what you mean...I think that's why i decided not to crop any of it!!! glad ya liked it!!

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States

This is beautiful, Susan - and I'm so happy for you about the camera being OK.

3 Feb 2009 11:45pm

@Stephen Phillips: Thanks for the good wishes for my baby, my rebel xt!! Glad you liked the shot, too!!

DarkElf from Perth, Australia

fabulous light and composition! the rail is a good point of reference for the eyes to follow... it's good that the camera has survived and you can keep on taking great photos!

You've brought together some of my favorite elements in a photograph: silhouettes, tones, and wide angle. Very nice.
