Morning Fishing

Posted by Susan (Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States) on 12 January 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

Each year in July, about 25 women get together on the beach, near Melbourne Beach, FL, and we have an All Female Fishing contest on the beach. Prizes are awarded, a good time is had by all, and our motto is:
"Women catch the fishes, Men do the dishes"!! We celebrate in the evening with a fresh fish dinner, for the fisherwomen, and their partners.
This shot was taken at about 6:30 am in July, when the early birds were just getting started!!
Looking forward to next year's "Bitches on the Beach"!

Cool News !!! I've been invited to join a site by StuckinCustoms, my hdr guru, where the best of the best post their hdr work!!! Check out this site.....I think I've got 3 shots out there already, if you scoll thru!!

This is absolutely exquisite, Susan. Photographic perfection, so wonderfully observed and presented. The sunlight is magnificent

@EYES WIDE SHUT: You are just too kind with your comments!! It was a gorgeous morning on the beach that day..... all except the excessive heat and humidity that by noon time, was unbearable!!

Jen from United States

Beautiful! I love the soft feel to it. It almost makes me feel like I'm right there on the beach, relaxing with the fishers.

@Jen: It truly was a beautiful morning on the beach....... You have to get out there really early to get a peaceful shot like this..... Later in the day, it was so hot and humid, we couldn't stay out there past 1 pm......Even the ocean water was too hot!!

Tony Duque from Raleigh, United States

Wonderful shot, Susan... and I'm with Jen: it's the soft texture that makes it a special picture. That and the pastels in the sky. Thanks so much for sharing!

Another wonderful light-HDR processing on this lovely pastel image.
Super, but I'm a stickler for level horizons.

12 Jan 2009 10:21pm

@Judy: FYI - this was not an hdr shot...only one exposure here, and touched up with a bit of Orton.....I agree about the horizon, but I really didn't want to have to crop any of this out, to straighten it out...... I was lucky it was this good, the way my feet were sinking into the sand!!

DarkElf from Perth, Australia

great composition and perspective from above.... i like the soft early morning light and colours - they really set a wonderful mood! it is a great idea and event - well done!

I *hear* you, Susan about cropping, however I find I have better images on AM3 with not more than an 800 pixel width photo uploaded. That info may give you more options.

13 Jan 2009 12:59am

@Judy: Well, I just straightened out the horizon a bit, and had to crop out some of the photo, but the fact of the matter on this one is....the horizon line is not straight!! Even if i rotate the whole photo, the horizon dips down on the right side, and it may be cause of the angle i was in....up over the beach. I'll email you the correction, pls let me know what ya think!!

Tony Duque from Raleigh, United States

With the horizon being so close to the middle of the frame, and knowing the pic wasn't cropped previously, it's doubtful any apparent non-straight horizon is lens-related or due to your elevation above the water. I'm betting there are some nondescript clouds or atmospheric distortions involved (maybe both) making the horizon appear to fall off toward the right edge. Bottom line: it's a terrific shot right out of the camera.

@Tony Duque: Hey Tony.... i like your thinking!!! Thanks for the words of encouragement!!
